Olympiads are competitive examinations across the country for students at the same educational levels to extract the exceptional ones with better potential, talent, aptitude and IQ. All children are unique and possess different types of talent. Olympiads are a way of finding out where your child stands. They also prepare your children with knowledge and exposure that might exceed beyond the school level. They help students realise their educational strengths. Participation in Olympiads is considered healthy as they help students hone various skills while preparing for them.

The Indian Talent Olympiads are the most well-known olympiads in India. They also provide students with tools to prepare for these examinations like- homework assignments, scoreboards, paper compilation books, test questions, video lectures, etc. Some olympiads conducted by them are as follows:

  • International Science Olympiad (ISO)
  • International Maths Olympiad (IMO)
  • English International Olympiad (EIO)
  • General Knowledge International Olympiad (GKIO)
  • International Computer Olympiad (ICO)
  • International Drawing Olympiad (IDO)
  • National Essay Olympiad (NESO)
  • National Social Studies Olympiad (NSSO)

These olympiads are conducted in various slots. The slot details can be found at  https://www.indiantalent.org/olympiad-exams

Little Genius is happy to share some tips and tricks that can help you and your children prepare for various olympiads.

1

Start Early

One way to succeed at any given challenge is to start preparing in advance. If you start early, you will be able to complete your syllabus not only once, but maybe twice or thrice. The more you study something, the better your concepts become. Last-minute preparation is usually not recommended for olympiads as the syllabus is usually extensive. With an early start, children might feel confident right before the examination.

2

Know Your Syllabus

Preparation becomes easier if you know what you have to prepare for. Designing a study plan becomes simpler with more details. You can find out about the official syllabi of olympiads at https://sofworld.org

3

Analyse the Exam Pattern

Olympiad exam patterns are usually different than school and tuition exam patterns. They usually consist of objective questions which sometimes can be very detailed and have a time limit. Some students may get stressed due to the time limit, so practising question papers is recommended.

4

Design a Study Plan

A study plan should ideally consist of the timetable, syllabus, day to day study goals, evaluation of time to complete certain chapters. You must also segregate the syllabus based on the level of difficulty so that you know which topics will take more time. Prepare short and quick notes. These notes will help you during your revisions before the olympiad dates.

5

Ask for Guidance

Consider taking online olympiad classes where you can be trained by someone with experience. Experienced mentors will also be able to help you with various test formats and practice tests. They will be able to point out your mistakes and help you realise the parts that you need to focus on better.

6

Revise and Restart

Revision is very important for olympiads. The more you revise, the deeper will become your understanding about a specific topic. So, revise as many times as you can. Take help from your notes to do so.

7

Work with A Relaxed Mind

A stressed mind will make mistakes easily. Try to be as relaxed as possible and take a break from studying right before the exam. Don’t overburden yourself and approach each question with a calm and logical approach.
